Summary
Our Goal
Our goal is to mitigate climate change and reduce pollution from food waste by providing accessible, efficient urban composters to restaurants in cities.
A New Way to Reduce Food Waste
The volume of food waste discarded by restaurants has been increasing exponentially for the past few decades. To solve this problem, we need to look at the problem from a fresh perspective. Instead of attempting to minimize wasteful uses of food or introduce new landfill sorting technologies, we are providing a way to sustainably decompose excess food at the source.
A Fresh Perspective on a New Technique
Composting has been around for thousands of years. Our project takes this old technique and uses it in a new way. By combining the benefits of composting with the ease and accessibility of dumpsters, we open the door for more people and businesses alike to reap the benefits of composting.
Giving Old Food a New Life
Composted food creates nutrient-rich fertilizer that farmers can use to grow new crops, replacing chemical fertilizers that are detrimental to the health of the environment. Not only does composting reduce food waste in landfills, it reduces the need for commercial fertilizers.
